I have been teaching piano for 20+ years and have taught all styles and all levels.

I realise that firstly a good student/teacher relationship is critical to success for students. It’s always my belief that a teacher needs to exercise respect, tolerance and compassion when guiding students on their musical journey, in order to achieve the very best result possible.

Whether learning to create music for pleasure, or following an exam and grading pathway, I can assist students to realise their goals and gain confidence and expertise in their chosen path.

Teaching Info

I  firstly try to put students at ease before evaluating their needs and desires in terms of previous experience or none, their age and age specific requirements. I may teach through lesson series books which the student will buy, or I will arrange to source for them.

Not all students are best served by lesson books. I’m always happy to search online for particular music and information they would like.

Much of this is determined firstly through an initial phone call, as it’s important that at the first lesson the student has something to take home with them to start their learning.

I do require that students put as much time as possible into playing at home and I will provide lesson and practise notes in an exercise book that they provide. I’m always available by phone to discuss any practise problems that may come up, rather than the student waiting until the next lesson for help.

For theory or aural lessons, some is integrated in the practical lesson to assist with understanding the music, but it’s possible to schedule extra lessons or alternate lessons to spend more time on these subjects.
