Bio
I am a professional musician with 30 years experience teaching School age children to play the drum kit for fun, self expression and creativity. Since 1991 i have taught in many Schools most recently as Drumming instructor at Elgin high School.
I teach students to complete the Trinity and Rockschool curriculum.
I grew up in a family where music was a big influence. My father Johnny Cook was a jazz drummer with the fantastic Ronnie Smith Big Band and several smaller jazz bands in the south coast of England. I got my first snare drum aged seven and my first full kit at age Ten. I was taught by professional musician Sammy Bryant who gave me a thorough performance based music education helping me to enter the Brighton jazz scene joining the Max Dierdon Big Band at the Richmond sessions when i was 15.
Teaching Info
My approach to teaching is based on the individual student. We all have different levels of ability. I will fit the lesson according to the needs of the student. If the student wants to take formal exams then i can offer that service. However to gain ability one has to work hard and practice the skills required.
