Bio
Hi, I’m Giovanni, an electric and double bass teacher based in London. I love helping people discover their sound and enjoy making music. I hold a master’s degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and have been teaching for over twenty years in youth centres, schools, community projects and private lessons.
As a performer, I’m active across jazz, pop, contemporary and improvised music, and I gig regularly around London and the UK. I bring this real-world experience into my teaching, focusing on good technique, solid timing, tone, fretboard knowledge and musical confidence.
My lessons are friendly and adaptable, and I shape them around what each student wants to achieve. Whether you’re picking up the bass for the first time, returning after a break, preparing for exams or working at an advanced level, I’ll help you progress at a pace that feels comfortable and enjoyable.
Above all, I aim to create a relaxed, supportive atmosphere where you feel encouraged to explore, learn and grow as a musician.
Teaching Info
In my lessons you can expect a relaxed, supportive atmosphere where we work on both the musical and technical sides of playing. I tailor each session to your goals, whether that’s learning your first bass lines, improving technique, building fretboard knowledge, developing groove and timing, or exploring improvisation and different styles.
We usually start with warm-ups and technique, followed by pieces, exercises or repertoire chosen to match your level and interests. I provide clear explanations, practical demonstrations and high-quality learning materials such as charts, backing tracks, written exercises and listening recommendations.
My teaching style is positive, patient and encouraging. I believe progress comes from understanding why we play something as much as how, so I always include musical context and small theory elements where useful. I want students to leave each lesson feeling motivated, confident and excited to keep practicing.
