Teaching Info
I design each lesson I offer according to my students’ abilities, and make the necessary changes once I become more familiar with their needs. We play plenty of duets in lessons and many of my students go on to play in bands and ensembles. I offer help and advice with choosing instruments and music, and for wind players help with mouthpieces, ligatures and reeds.
When you come for lessons, you can be assured of plenty of individual attention and focus. Each lesson involves an element of technique and theory, but the majority of the time is devoted to putting that theory into practice. Lessons cover all sorts of styles from classical to jazz.
"Kate has been a massive inspiration to me and is a brilliant teacher - she's the driving force that led to me receiving a place at a conservatoire. Lessons with Kate were always enjoyable and I always found myself wanting more time! Under her tutelage I was awarded high marks in ABRSM exams up to and past Grade 8. I owe Kate a debt of gratitude for her guidance, patience and faith in my ability as a pianist and musician over a period of seven years."

"Kate is a great teacher: encouraging, thorough and fun. I did not start learning saxophone until I was 60, and, four years later, I have passed three exams and play in a sax quartet under Kate's guidance. Highly recommended!"
Sara
"I knew I’d found the right teacher for my son when he came out of one of his early lessons with Kate saying “thirty minutes just isn’t enough!” He’s now been learning with Kate for 7 years, and after taking Grade 8 on the clarinet he has taken up the soprano saxophone."
