Bio
No matter if you’re 8 or 88, I welcome anyone who’s ready to do some joyful fluting!! I teach flute to people of all ages and skill levels, up to diploma standard. I’m a big fan of getting students involved in concerts—it’s a great way to learn and helps with exam nerves too. My main aim is to help everyone achieve their best, so I mix encouragement and support with just enough structure, making sure lessons match each student’s style and needs.
Whether you’re into classical pieces, want to build up your technique, or feel like trying out new tunes, I shape lessons around which music you enjoy. I try to keep things relaxed and welcoming so students feel good about trying new things and building confidence, whether playing solo or in a group. By blending some straightforward learning with creative fun, I hope to help students not only get better at playing, but also really enjoy making music.
Lessons might include lively duets, a bit of improvisation or help you to prepare for a big concert with your band, ace an exam, or simply play for the fun of it. We’ll shape your lessons to suit your goals. I also organise friendly concerts where you can show off your skills and cheer each other on—think of it as a musical party!
I’m a passionate flute teacher and player who just loves making music and performing. I’ve played at a high level in lots of different settings, from schools to professional gigs, and started out at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. After more than ten years of playing professionally, I went on to do my MA at Kingston University (2003) and recently finished a PhD at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
So come along, bring your favourite tune or just your curiosity, and let’s make music fun together!
Teaching Info
Thanks so much for wanting to learn with me! If you have any questions at all, just drop me a message—I’m always happy to chat.
I really enjoy talking about what my students want from their flute lessons, and after years of teaching, I’m keen to help out however I can. There’s so much info online these days, so I try to use my own experience (both as a teacher and performer) to give my students the support and advice that fits them best. Plus, I’ve learned from some fantastic flute players and teachers in the UK, and I love passing on tips and tricks I picked up from them.
I’ve played and taught the flute for a long time, but what I like most is teaching students who are curious and up for learning—especially those who are good listeners! That’s such an important skill for any musician, whatever your level, and it really helps you improve quickly.
I always try to keep things calm and friendly in our lessons, and I hope my students join me in making it a positive space for everyone. I enjoy building a warm, fun, and professional vibe so we can focus on music and enjoying the flute together. I look forward to getting to know you and seeing where your flute journey takes us!
