Bio
Hello! My name is Rochelle and I have been a teacher for over twenty years. My strengths would include patience, empathy, encouragement and humour. My musical journey started at the young age of 5 years old when I discovered playing tunes by ear on my grandparents old piano. I began organ lessons at the age of 7 and progressed onto the piano at the age of 10 years old. I studied my piano grades at school and gained a diploma in music at college. I tutored students in Aberdeen during my training years, which was a fantastic experience. This was a great time to build my understanding of teaching children as young as 6 years old. As well as tutoring, I played keyboard and piano in a music band during my late teens and early to mid twenties. I volunteered at a youth group in Dundee, providing music lessons for young people and putting on shows. Since then I retrained as a primary teacher in my mid 20’s. I was privileged to develop music within both the early years setting and all stages of the primary school. Throughout my teaching career, I have been mentored by a music therapist to work alongside her with children with additional support needs. I enjoyed this role very much. Additionally I have been involved in supporting a school choir, played accompaniments for competitions and now I am in a position to offer my tutoring services again. I am very excited to take on new students, young and old. My passion for music includes classical but I enjoy most genres of music. I am happy to travel to clients homes if it suits their needs. My new piano business is called Purrfect piano, to reflect my love of animals and music.
Teaching Info
Get Set piano is a good resource for beginners. Becoming familiar with the layout of the piano, position of the notes, finger exercises, finger positioning, rhythm, beat, pitch and musical theory. This includes time signatures, note values, treble clefs and bass clefs. Learning to use both hands and read music notation.
For those with previous experience I recommend playing a piece that the student enjoys and at a level that represents their ability. We would then discuss styles and preferred composers such as Mozart, Bach, Chopin and Debussy.
I would play the piece of music and discuss the important features of the composition. Theory would be taught alongside to meet the students level.
I can provide fun pieces and styles of choice on request
