Bio

I am a friendly and professional music teacher who loves helping others experience the joy of music.

I have been teaching since 1994 and have helped students pass Grade 8 exams on clarinet and piano. I regularly use my 30+ years’ experience playing clarinet in an amateur orchestra in Manchester in my lessons to help students fulfil their full potential as musicians.

Teaching Info

Whether you’re already a competent player or an absolute beginner, technique and musicianship will be at the forefront of your lessons should you choose me as your teacher. Having studied performance for my MA in Performance at Huddersfield University, my students are always encouraged to perform their pieces in such a way that even the most basic ones are a pleasure to listen to, not merely a collection of notes that don’t say anything.

Students wishing to take either ABRSM or LCM exams are welcome but no-one is pushed into taking an exam if they don’t want to. As long as my students are progressing I’m happy. Of course, regular practise is encouraged to make this happen. I can also help students prepare for music theory exams as well as their G.C.S.E. and A-level music exams, including assistance with listening tests and composition.

Lessons are given in the comfort and familiar surroundings of your own home in and around the Wigan area within a reasonable driving distance. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

All ages and standards welcome and I have an Enhanced DBS check.
