Bio

I have been teaching cello and musicianship for over 15 years, and I believe that music education should be full of joy and creativity. I split my time between teaching, performing and research and am a staff cello teacher at a leading music education charity. In addition to my teaching work, I lecture and mentor on a PGCEi programme for instrumental teachers, accredited by Birmingham City University. I have a BMus degree in music from the University of Oxford, a Masters from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and am in the very final stages of a PhD at Kings College London. I also perform as a freelance modern and baroque cellist.

Teaching Info

I have experience with a wide range of students, from four year olds doing singing and movement-based musicianship up to advanced teenagers and adult students. I love the challenge of teaching beginners, but am equally comfortable teaching to post-diploma level. I am happy to use music exams where they are part of a student’s goals (and consistently have success doing so) but they are not the main focus of my teaching: my priority is to foster a lifelong love of music based on a secure and healthy technical foundation taught in a musical way. In addition to the cello I teach musicianship, music theory and harmony.
