Bio
Teaching total beginners to advanced level violinists and will be following the ABRSM grade exams. I also teach up to Grade 5 Music Theory and can be done alongside violin lessons (for example: 90min lesson can be 60min violin, 30min music theory etc) . I accept adult beginners also as well as younger students and can teach all ages, it’s never too late to start!
I trained at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh, Kings College London and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, London and can advise on music school applications and also music college/conservatoire applications as I have first hand experience of the process for advanced musicians. I have contacts and knowledge of the local music scene being from Newcastle originally myself and can help and advise if students want to participate in extra musical activity.
Teaching Info
My teaching will be classical following ABRSM syllabus for beginners/intermediate however if a student has a request for a certain style or piece they’d like to play I have experience as a jazz violinist also and can cover pop/modern styles to make teaching a bit more fun. I have played professionally, at weddings and events and have 10+ years of concert experience behind me. While I do have some material I will be able to supply (mainly for beginners or advanced post grade 8 musicians) , I will recommend books and material that will help in my teaching from time to time especially if a student is looking to take a graded exam. I will be able to get in touch with local accompanists for any face to face exam and can discuss which exams a student will be entered in when the time comes. I am willing to enter and prepare a student for a traditional ABRSM exam in person or the new performance exam syllabus which can be done as an online recorded exam for distance students.
