Bio
Rory Preston Sinclair is a tenor with a rich, dark tone that embraces the dramatic and Heldentenor repertoire, although he started out as lyric tenor. After five years as a choral scholar and lay clerk at Oxford and Canterbury, Rory studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won several awards.
He has a well-established concert career, with a repertoire of over seventy works. He has performed across the UK and in Europe for such conductors at venues such as the Concertgebouw, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
Since leaving the Guildhall, Rory has focussed mostly on music education, as voice teacher and coach, director and as a facilitator through creative music and theatre workshops. Along the way, he sang for many years as soloist and chorus with a wide range of small and large opera companies: English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, European Chamber Opera, Pimlico Opera, De Nederlandse Oper and De Nationale Reisopera in the Netherlands and the Salzburg Festival Opera.
Rory is one of those singers who was badly taught in his early years, then spent the rest of his active performing career finding the right answers. He now teaches a sound method of voice production based on strong technique, both in the early stages and remedially.
