Bio

As a queer, neurodivergent person, I don’t often see people like me teaching music, and I think I would have benefited from a teacher when I was younger who was sympathetic to the specific barriers I was facing. I survived formal music education but many people like me did not, and their passion and talent for music was left behind and forgotten.

My goal is to be the kind of teacher I needed when I was learning music. My aim is to always lead with kindness, grace and empathy, and make learning music fun, inspiring, and collaborative.

I graduated from a music bachelor’s degree in 2015 and this year (2026) I am going back to university for my master’s degree in Ethnomusicology. I have been teaching music and leading ensembles and choirs for over 15 years. I am passionate and committed to making music accessible for everyone, and I believe that anyone can learn music.

Sax has been teaching me singing for over a year now as part of the folk choir they run, and I really enjoy it! They are a patient and engaging teacher with a breadth of musical knowledge, and have given me help to learn songs by ear via recordings, so I can still participate when my limited music-reading means I struggle. Since starting folk choir my ability to sight-read music and my understanding of technical terms and the principles of harmonising have vastly improved, though, and my vocal ability and confidence has grown greatly, so I enjoy singing even more than before! Would highly recommend them.

I’ve known Sax for about three years through the folk choir he runs and it has been so fun and rewarding to learn from him. Sax is great at adapting to anyone’s learning speed, whether they’re a complete beginner or semi-professional, and is always super encouraging. I used to really not like my voice or have any confidence in my ability to sight sing but I’m happy to say that this is no longer the case!
- Joy
Sax is friendly, understanding and very skilled! They teach with warmth and passion, showing dedication and love for what they do!
- Charlotte
I went to a choir led by Sax. They are the most supportive and gentle teacher. Sax always builds my confidence in singing while giving really helpful advice on how to improve. Would highly recommend them.
- Amy
I know Saxon through his leading our choir practice. Saxon is a really creative and supportive tutor, really able to bring out the best in people.
- Bethan
Sax is kind and patient. I would highly recommend him.

Sax has led music sessions I have attended for several years, including a Les Miserables singing lesson for me and my friends for my birthday! They are a fantastic teacher, extremely patient and great at translating musical concepts to make them easy to understand for everyone in the group.
- Holly
I knew Saxon through church. They compiled the Christmas music concert and helped me and others build our confidence after not playing our instruments for a long time. Patient, but keeps you on track. Also a very talented musician.
- Debbie
Connected with Saxon online and right away fell into a lengthy conversation about our favorite instruments. I've been looking to pick up some piano lessons to get comfortable playing again, after not playing since high school. Saxon was engaging to learn from, and I never felt talked down to.
