Bio

I studied both undergraduate and postgraduate music at Royal Holloway, University of London and have been teaching cello and piano both privately and for Music Services for over ten years, as well as orchestral conducting, ensemble and solo performing and giving theory lessons.

Whilst not teaching I like to play folk music and jam with my friends (musical chaos!) and am a keen runner and scale model maker.

Teaching Info

I’m comfortable and experienced in teaching all levels from absolute beginner to G8 and beyond. I believe in being flexible and friendly with both my teaching style and in the styles of music used, and incorporate both traditional classical practice with improvisation, contemporary and popular music, composition, arrangement and generally having fun and being motivated. There are some really positive life skills that come with learning an instrument and I like to work students towards ‘being their own teacher’ and understanding how to progress themselves through example. I make sure students are given clear practice advice, can choose what repertoire they are interested in exploring, and can I also have a knack for working in music theory knowledge in a way that isn’t boring!
