Bio
I over both private and small group lessons – small group lessons are ideal for those who may want to share the cost with other students or who may feel more confident singing with others.
Looking to develop your vocal confidence? Hoping to master a new technique or vocal quality? Do you have an important upcoming audition or performance? Do you want to pursue singing exams? Or perhaps you simply want to discover some singing basics for enjoyment!
Emma is a holistic and highly bespoke vocal coach who provides a safe and welcoming environment for absolute beginners all the way through to those hoping to pursue singing professionally. The technique she uses is one of releasing abdominal tension, ensuring sufficient breath and for more advanced learners, looking at larynx placement and performance technique. More than anything, she believes that good and safe singing comes from feeling confident and so this is something which underpins all her teaching.
Emma enjoys a professional musical theatre career alongside singing teaching. She has toured the world, performing in arenas, theatres and opera houses as far as China and America. She has appeared in musicals and shows such as:
– The Phantom of the Opera (world and European tours)
– Cats, playing the leading role of Grizabella.
– Featured soloist in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular
– The Last Night of the Proms
– Fronting a big band and as a soloist for the BBC.
She also regularly sings with function bands at corporate events and weddings. She is classically trained, having started out as a professional choral singer but has transitioned to a more contemporary/belt style of singing since entering the world of musical theatre. As a professional performer herself, she knows what it is to overcome nerves and confidence issues, to struggle with a particular technical aspect of singing or to have an upcoming important audition.
Teaching Info
I cover all styles of music and am comfortable teaching all ages. I tailor my lessons carefully to the needs and learning style of my student, aiming firstly to help them feel comfortable and safe to explore their voice. During our first introductory lesson I will aim to get to know you and you can get to know me. We will talk a little about technique and perhaps find a song you would love to sing.
Beginners – Work on confidence, some basic breathing, find some songs you absolutely love to sing and discover your vocal range and quality.
Intermediate – Explore a new technique, work on discovering either the classical or contemporary side to your singing voice, increase range and challenge you with harder repertoire.
Advanced – Emma can provide a masterclass style lesson for those wishing to pursue musical theatre or already working in the industry. Bring a song along (perhaps one you are struggling with) and we can pick it apart, look at technique and acting. Emma can also provide audition preparation and advise on repertoire.
