I’m a professional harpist and experienced teacher based in York, with 25 years’ experience teaching and performing. I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to advanced grades. My teaching is friendly, supportive and tailored to each student, helping you develop strong technique, confidence and a genuine enjoyment of playing the harp.

What to Expect from Your Harp Lessons

Lessons are friendly, relaxed and tailored to each student’s individual needs, experience and musical goals. Whether you are picking up the harp for the first time or working towards advanced grades, we will work at a pace that is comfortable for you while making steady, enjoyable progress.

Lessons may include learning new pieces, developing technique, reading music, rhythm, musical expression and performance skills. For students working towards graded examinations, I can provide structured preparation and guidance throughout the process. I also enjoy introducing students to a variety of repertoire, so lessons can be adapted to suit your musical interests.

For beginners, we will establish good posture and technique from the start, learn the basics of reading music and gradually build confidence through enjoyable pieces. More experienced players can focus on refining technique, developing musical interpretation, tackling more challenging repertoire and preparing for performances or examinations.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging and supportive. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, motivated and able to ask questions. Mistakes are a natural and important part of learning, and I aim to create an environment where students can experiment, develop their musical independence and enjoy the process of becoming a better harpist.
