Bio
Tom graduated from the Royal College of Music with a first-class BMus (Hons) degree in Vocal and Opera studies, studying with Timothy Evans-Jones, Justin Lavender and Sebastien Wybrew. He has performed extensively in the UK and abroad exploring both solo and choral repertoire, including performing a selection of Schubert songs in recital at St John’s Smith Square, Bayard Taylor (Barnum’s Bird) with the RCM’s International Opera Studio and recording an album with the Philarmonia orchestra performing Andrew Downes’ oratorio ‘New Dawn’. Previously, Tom studied at Eton College obtaining an A* in Music A Level, believing a theoretical approach to music-making creates the most flexible and accomplished musicians. Tom has taught for nearly five years, working previously for Portsmouth Grammar School/Portsmouth Cathedral and the Tri-borough Music Hub (Hammersmith) as a teaching assistant, before recently building his solo studio more. Tom is DBS checked and enjoys teaching students of all ages; it’s never too early or late to start exploring wonderful music and learning new skills.

I’m keen to work flexibly with learners towards any goals they are pursuing. ABRSM and Trinity grades offer an excellent foundational knowledge, but some learners may prefer a more personal approach. I strongly believe learning the theory alongside good technique develops the ability to understand repertoire individually, enabling learners to explore the music they want to independently. I’m happy to offer a consultation lesson to further understand the learners goals and needs, and look forward to working alongside you.
